Efficiency of PRP Plasmolifting: Why Some People Doubt It?
Author: Dr Renat Akhmerov, Professor of Medicine, a PRP Plasmolifting technology developer
A series of articles on application of PRP Plasmolifting technology
Patients often pose a question: is PRP therapy (authologous plasma therapy, or Plasmolifting) as effective as it is advertised? Their experience sometimes contradicts the adverts, as they say: "I took a course to improve the condition of hair (facial skin, joint treatment, etc.) but I did not see any positive result". So, why does plasma sometimes produce an excellent effect, and sometimes it leaves clients disappointed?
I have been practising PRP therapy for more than 25 years, and my practice and research increasingly convince me that one's own plasma is a unique, safe and extremely effective treatment for many diseases. Therefore, let us look at what errors can stop specialists from getting the desired results with PRP.
Error 1: Expecting overnight results
The first mistake the doctors make is they perceive plasma as just another method of allopathic medicine, a type of a pharmaceutical product. In my lectures, I emphasize that plasma is a part of the blood, an organ or a tissue of the body, therefore the laws of autotransplantation, natural therapy, and organotherapy are applicable here, not those of pharmacology.
Medication provides a very quick effect indeed, while with plasma therapy, the result may manifest itself later. The longer is the patient's medical history, the longer it will take to obtain the desired effect. Additional procedures may be required, with longer intervals between them. Unfortunately, the doctor’s impatience often leads to using more radical methods, which, as effective as they may be, come with significant side effects.
Error 2: Saving on materials
Some doctors try to save on consumables by using cheap laboratory tubes and not informing the patient about it. This approach can reduce the quality of the procedure, making it far less effective.
Error 3: Using unreasonably expensive test tubes
Other specialists, on the contrary, unnecessarily opt for expensive test tubes, allegedly enriched with platelets, which is a marketing trick. As a result, the doctor is forced to raise the price of procedures, thus limiting patients in the number of sessions required for a sustainable result.
Error 4: Neglecting the professional community
The lack of communication with like-minded professionals from the medical community also negatively affects the results of treatment. I use platforms with international outreach to bring together PRP specialists to share experiences and discuss the specifics of therapy in English, Russian and German. Such knowledge-sharing allows doctors to obtain stable and satisfactory results.
Anexamplefrommypractice
I have recently consulted a friend of mine who suffers from knee joint arthrosis. The consultation took place remotely, and the procedure itself was carried out in St. Petersburg. After four sessions, the expected pain relief did not occur. We discussed the case with the attending physician and established that the pain syndrome was caused not only by the soft tissue, but also by the intra-articular component. By adding a gel injection and extending the PRP course, we achieved excellent results.
Please, send us your questions and suggestions, and stay healthy!
